Director/producer Bennett Elliott and Writer/editor Robert Kolodny have just returned from the Max Ophuls Preis film festival in Saarbruken, Germany, where Dot played three times for three sold-out audiences. Initially apprehensive on whether or not the German audience would pick up on our quirky family tale, chock full of subtle humor and pop culture references, but we were pleasantly surprised when we received standing ovations on all three occasions. It was a wonderful time to network with a group of filmmakers from Tel Aviv to Paris to Berlin, and we were happy to represent our outstanding film!
In further Dot news, Dot has been chosen to be screened at the 9th Annual Garden State Film Festival in Asbury park, NJ. The festival takes place from March 31st- April 3rd, 2011. The film festival schedule is still in the works, but please check out the schedule on the festival's website at www.gsff.org, which should be up no later than Feb 20th!

We have been profiled in the School of Visual Arts Visual Arts Press for the Fall 2010 issue! Article below.
Recent graduate Bennett Elliott (BRA 2010 Film and Video) received the 2010 William Arkell Memorial Scholarship for her thesis film and directorial debut, Dot, which tells the story of an eccentric, creative and lonely girl- the eponymous Dot- battling her rival in a flying-machine competition. Written by classmate Robert Kolodny (BFA 2010 Film and Video) and filled with visuals drawn from Elliott's youth and a variety of cinematic influences, the short film is a new take on a child's coming-of-stage story.
The William Arkell Memorial Scholarship, an annual $5,000 award made in support of a senior thesis project by an undergraduate film or video student working in the narrative film genre, played a key part in Elliott's ability to complete the postproduction of her film. She says, "Being awarded such an incredible grant helped alleviate the financial burden and encouraged me to continue creating art."
Though Dot spotlights Elliott's directorial skills, her true passion is producing, and she is currently wrapping up postproduction on a feature film titled The Americans. For additional information about Dot and Bennett Elliott, visit dotthemovie.com.
